Hodgepodge (Life Lessons)

For over two years I have been visiting a woman in a nursing home once a week, a friend asked me to visit her and then over time G and I became friends, she was 93 when we met. The last 6 months have been really rough, her mind so full of the fear of death. her struggles ended Tuesday night. As luck would have it I went to visit her that day which was not my usual day, but I felt an urgent pull, I am so glad I did and that I was able to say goodbye to her. She is now free and it is a blessing.

Also some of you know I lost my special heart rock that I recently found on the beach in Oregon. I lost it on a hike, it was in my pocket and then when I returned home it was not there. As I slipped it into my pocket that morning, my little voice said "Don't carry that rock in your pocket, you will lose it", I did not listen and I lost it an hour later. Well, yesterday while hiking, against all odds I found my rock again! I have been blessed with it twice! It now has pride of place in front of my Buddha.

This is a tale of paying attention to that small voice inside, LISTEN! It is important. But also TRUST! Everything is a miracle.

In my comments for my last post my bloggy friend Melanie left this as her life list, I wanted to share it as it is stunning! And so very complete:

To be: content.

To do: everything I attempt.

To have: what I need when I need it.

I think I will put this on my mirror and make it my mantra, Thank you dear Melanie.

I am off to have yogurt and fruit and hot chocolate with agave, then I will paint on my still life, it is slow going, but I hope to finish this week. Happy Happy Saturday! XOXO

Hi Dear Annie,
I am glad you had the chance to spend time w/ your friend before her passing. I am sure it was a blessing for you both. I had a feeling you would find that rock again. It reminds me of that saying about letting things go... if it is meant to be they will come back to you.
Ooooh, I wish you'd show us the painting in progress.... but I guess I shall have to be patient!
Off to hike- talk soon!
:)

Hello sweet Annie. I'm so very sorry you lost your friend this week, but so happy that you listened to that voice inside you that told you to go see her one more time. Like Becky said, it really was a blessing for both of you.

You found your special rock again! Yay! Like Becky said. . . I couldn't say it better, so ditto.

Happy painting!

Dear Annie,

Your friend would smile to know the impact she, too, had in your life. I am happy for the time you spent together.

And the stone? What a fateful hike that day!

And the Life List, yes...I put it on my mirror in my bathroom just to remind me at the start and end of each day to remember what is important...

That little inner voice is getting louder these days, more insistent on being heard.

I'm so happy you were able to have such a great friendship with an elder...I know both of you learned from it. I'm glad you were with her as she struggled against death...I imagine you helped a great deal.

And I imagine your friend might have had something to do with you finding your heart rock again.

Blessings to you, dear, kind Annie!

Suki, thank you!xoxo
Teri, Glad you found the list useful too :-).xoxo
Kj, I did not feel kind when I left, she begged me to stay longer, but I could not, the end was very apinful and scary for her, I wish she had had some peace about it. I am glad she has some peace now :-). xoxo
Marianne, Thank you! xoxo
Marion, It is interesting because that morning I found the rock, I both let go of looking for it and had the thought, maybe G will help me find it now that she is an angel :-). xoxo

Annie - I can tell that you are a dear friend to people. You're one of those lovely souls that takes the time to remember others. I know your friend appreciated you so much. I know I would have. And if I could have, I would have shown you your rock. :)) xox Pam

I totally trust my inner voice at all times. Good for you to listen to yours as you were able to pay one last visit to a dear lady. I love elder friends. There's one back in CA that I miss deeply. She's in the full throes of alzheimers now and she didn't know who I was when I called the other night. That was so hard.

That's a wonderful rock! I must have missed the post about it the first time, but now I see the rock belongs with you as you've found it not once, but twice.
Serendipity!

Amazing about your rock! I had the same thing with what became my wedding ring. It was found in a box of curtain rings which had come from my grandmother about the time Brian and I got engaged. It disappeared when I had 2nd thoughts, then reappeared when I was searching through books in the attic with the wedding booked. It was just laying there on the loft fibre. Sometimes some things are just meant to be.

I'm so glad you listened to your inner voice with the lady. I'm sure you made a big difference to her final hours.

Wow I am honoured that you liked the result of my "big think". I had to keep asking myself and coming back to the computer. What is essential and what is just "fluff" in life.
