New Work and a Little About my Process

I thought it would be fun to take you through this new process. First I start by plastering my board red then I added collage and painting, then I added another color plaster (the creamy yellow) and carved into it, then I embellished the final piece with painting details. As you can see I covered most of the under painting. This piece is bigger than the first two, 20"x 16". I am having fun playing with different elements and experimenting. This piece may stay this way or maybe changed, I have not decided. I will come back to it in a few weeks. I want to move on and try different colors. I am waiting for my pigments to come in the mail, they don't sale them at the art store here. Up to now I have been using acrylics to mix with the plaster, but that is getting costly. The pigments are cheaper and go further.
Thank you everyone for your advice on the classes. I need more help. Do you think it is better to have the classes on the weekend or weekdays? Also should I do 2, 6 hour days or 3, 4 hour days? What would you want in a class?
Thank you for any input on the painting or the classes, I always love hearing your thoughts.
Happy Monday! XOXO
P.S. I have no idea why blogger published this in such a goofy way, with all the huge spaces, I did not do it, blogger seems to have a mind of it's own :-).
*P.S.S Thank you for all the advice. I should have been more clear, the classes will be more like workshops, not on going classes like at school. 12 hours total is about how long I need to get a beginner started.

I love these - they look so cheerful! It was so nice to get a little insight into your process, too. Venetian plaster seems to be opening up all kinds of new artistic possibilities for you. I'm so happy for you!

Formatting posts on blogger had become easier for while, then I think they "improved" something again and messed up what worked before. That's progress for you!
;o)

I hope you're having a good week!

Hugs and love,

Annie,
You need to understand who will attend your classes. Will it be people with full time jobs - if so, it has to be over weekends - just Saturday. Else it can be on late afternoons daily, when people do have some time on their hands.
I think 2 hours per session should be fine.
In short you have to tie in what you think will be popular, in terms of timing, with the rent negotiation. Hiring it just for three hours on a Saturday (so that two hours can be devoted to the workshop, the rest for setting up and clearing) may be cheaper.
Best wishes for success.

Hia Annie, thanks for sharing the process- very interesting. I hope you feel inspired to push yourself even further.

Here in the UK there are women who don't work who could manage whole days during the week and go out to lunch between the morning session and the afternoon one. Their weekends are usually family ones. Then you have those who work who could only manage evenings or weekends. I'd work out room hire costs and materials costs including wear and tear on reusable items and what market is likely to want your course at a price that will give you something for your tuition too.

It could be you begin with one thing but as you get to know your students, they tell you what would suit them better? What about a weekend course as a once off and see how it goes?

Fun to see your process, Annie! Looks like so much fun. I have that problem w/ blogger, too... even when I preview it, it shows up differently once I publish. I think a 4 hour class would be great...since most people work during the week. Speaking from my work experience... I'm often too tired to do anything creative in the evening.

so interesting to see the transformations you went through for this painting. I really like the red and black ending. have fun planning your workshop.

That reminds me a bit of some of the interiors in North Africa.

To get rid of the space at the bottom of the post, go into edit and keep hitting backspace from the bottom to the final line of text. Then post.

what fun you must be having with this plaster! you know annie, it reminds me of my father! he was a mason and the very look of the plaster brings an image of him.

i don't think a two hour block is long enough to get anything done here. i think two six hour dates work well, that;s what i would probably want for myself.

or maybe just start with ONE day, say from 10-3 or something like that and hope you will hook the interest of folks to sign up for more.

i hope this helps. good to be exciting about building something, including a workshop, right?
