New Work

Top is a detail shot, then a side view and then the whole painting from the front. This collage is titled "Asia" due to the map I used, 14" x 11". There is a lot going on here and you get a better view if you click on the image to enlarge. I used venetian plaster, maps, ledger papers, ink, oil and acrylic paint, graphite, and cold wax on cradle board.
I am currently working on 3 small pieces that are being pesky :-), sometimes the little devils take a while and there is no rushing them. And two large pieces that are time and labor intensive, so I likely won't have anything else to show for a while.
I always love to hear your thoughts. XOXO

This is it...

In my last post I told you I was finishing paintings I was very excited about, this is the first one. I am very excited about this because for two years I have been reaching for something unnameable and in these new paintings I am finally there! There are about 20-30 very thin layers of venetian plaster, oil, graphite, paper, most of which are taken from old ledger books and then I draw on them), and cold wax. Much scraping and sandpapering goes on with these, much rubbing with alcohol, they are very labor intensive and this piece took about 7 weeks of daily work, but it was a labor of love. As it is so hard to show you the details of this painting I took some detail shots for you, also if you click on the images and then click again you will get a better feel for it. This one is 20"x 16".
It will not be going to my ETSY shop or be on redbubble, these are paintings I am doing for a wonderful gallery that I am submitting them to for representation. Wish me luck :-). I will be showing more of these as I complete them, I have two more nearly done.
I always love to hear from you.
XOXO

New Painting

This is my latest painting in a series I started a few weeks back, there are many layers, perhaps ten or more to get this where I wanted it. The title is "Demolition". It is fitting because I am working on demolishing many old habits and ways of thinking and in doing this piece I took much sandpaper and even a big butcher knife to it :-). 12"x 12", venetian plaster, oil, graphite and cold wax.
If you click on image then click again you get a better idea of all the detail.
I always love to hear your thoughts, those that still blog :-).
Love. XOXO

New Painting

This is a new little 8"x 8" I just completed called "The Ghost". See the top 3 detail photos, I want to do them big, it will be a challenge as there is a lot of chance in my work, my process leaves a lot open so things can just happen, but I think I can get close, I will do a series of these paintings gradually going up in size until I reach the 47"x 47" goal. For now I have put all my other ideas and projects aside. Very excited and happy to be in the painting flow again :-).
Always love to hear your thoughts.
This image has been tumbled.

New Painting/Collage

I am back to abstraction where I feel more myself. I have to say it is much harder than the collages where I have a raven as the center, because I have a place to start with the image of the raven, with the abstract I have to pull it out of thin air. This piece is called "Hydra, ode to Leonard Cohen" I love him and I am reading a book about his life called "I'm Your Man", it is a wonderful book and at one time Leonard bought a little house on Hydra a Greek island, this collage reminds me of his descriptions of sitting on the beach watching the sun come down. This collage is 12"x 12" , venetian plaster, oil, acrylic, rust stained paper, India ink, pen, graphite and cold wax on board.
I always love to hear your thoughts.
I included many detail shots, but if you click on the image then click again you will see the real deal.
This piece is tumbled.
XOXO

More Drawings, and a Few Small Paintings and Some Good News!

I have been busy :-). I have much more to show, but will save them for another post, I don't want to overwhelm you. The first images are all tea bag and rust drawings, various sizes. The paintings are 4" with 2" sides, like little cubes. I had so much fun doing all these pieces I hope it shows. They will all be making their way to my ETSY site in the next week, but if you see something you like let me know and I will reserve it in your name in my shop. The prices range from $20- $49. I always love your comments.
I have loads of good news: We have had no thunder for almost a week! Bella is very relaxed :-).
I sold some of my drawings! Thank you Barbara! And last, I was selected in the Tao's selects juried show, they can only pick 2 from the three submitted and they picked the root painting and the red bowl. Whoo hoo!
I am off to paint. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! XOXO
