These are the paintings I have been laboring over for weeks. To all who were expecting flowers in a vase, so sorry to disappoint, I did start one, but became so bored out of my mind that I had to plaster over it. The first and only one was fun because I had never painted one before, but I can now see that it is not for me. I love abstract because it is a way for me to get close to spirit and paint what I am not able to verbalize. Does this make any sense? When I finally broke through my old patterns of doing things these are the paintings that came. I used Venetian plaster, acrylic, graphite and pastel and varnish. They were so fun I got lost in them. One day I painted for 11 hours with just food breaks, now I call that being in the groove. Both paintings are 12" x 12". The tip top painting is called "A Thousand Views of A Spirit in Motion" and the middle painting is called "Nine" The last photo is a close up of "Nine". There are a zillion layers and I sanded and scraped and plastered and drew and carved and burnished. If you enlarge you can see more of the detail. Very labor intensive. I hope you enjoy them, please let me know. Happy Saturday! XOXO

i especially like the addition of graphite. i love the edge esp in the first one between the red and the white plaster. lots of depth to these, all the layer work adds a lot. do you do these on canvas?? I would think too many thick layers would cause canvas to sag. 11 hours. zounds.
Suki, These are on board, but I have done some on canvas, though not as many layers, no saging :-).
I love to draw and this added a lot of fun for me. xoxo
Wow Annie they both look great! I am happy you had so much fun doing them. I think it is good to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while but it is good to return to where your true spirit is.
Have a wonderful weekend ;)
I love them, Annie. I know what you are saying about abstract painting - it's like tapping into a secret language. When you're free of having to represent forms, I think your mind and your hand come up with a new way of saying things. :) The textures are amazing. I love the edge on the top one, it looks like it's hiding something! Beautiful work - xo Pam
My first thought was this must have been what it was like for people who knew Paul Klee and watched his work develop. There is so much energy in your paintings. I can understand why you wouldn't want to do vases -- not enough energy in the familiar forms. It's exciting to see you explore your creativity!
Marianne, Thank you, wise words indeed. xoxo
Pam, Thank you sweetie! Yes, it is a secret language. xoxo
Suzanne, Paul Klee, my, I am flattered as he is one of my favorite artists. Thank you for your kind words. xoxo
I'd say you were definitely on a roll! Love the texture of the work, and the crackle effect you got.
Nine is a magic number, you know--and your "Nine" is very mesmerizing! Yeah, I can see what would make Suzanne think of Klee. Cool!
hey annie!
love them! especially when i enlarged the photos to see all the yummy TEXTURE- great! glad to hear of rain and of course happy they will be reopening the forest :)
see you soon!
:)
Barbara,Thank you and the crackle happens with the plaster on it's own :-). xoxo
Kate.P, I know all about the #9, it is my favorite number for that very reason :-). xoxo
Becky, so glad you like em! Miss you and can't wait until you return, though I know you are having fun! xoxo
Oh annie, these are stunning!! i have no idea how you create something like this, so i can't make a good comment (like other artists here)but i can say these are easy to love.
Beautiful.
Yes so many layers peeping here and there. I like "1000 Views" there is such life and fun there. 11 hours- great work being lost in what you do.
These are wonderful Annie!!!! I'm so glad you found an opportunity to really get in the zone. Your hard work really paid off!
xo
I like the texture in that.
I love nine! I really like how you've muted your colors more in these pieces. And I love the lines with the graphite...perfect!
I ditto Pam's comment.
xo
Lo♥
I really like the line work with the graphite too,,,,so much (to me) about abstract is the mark making.
I see the Klee reference also.
I feel joyful motion in these,,and it's easy to see that you were off in one of your 'others' as this work was done.
I love thinking about our 'others',,,and the peace and fullfillment found there,,,in the abstract.
Cool work, Annie!
It looks like you had fun with these. The texture is great. I understand exactly what you mean about abstract work being things you can't express any other way.
Absolutely love these! So glad you didn't go with the vase of flowers. A way to get closer to spirit..... I can understand that. When I get lost in my carvings for long stretches at a time I feel closer to spirit.
