Animal Wednesday

They say a photo is worth a thousand words and this one says it all. My new, sweet Bella is hooked to the chair (I did this for a few days so she could not chase the cats) and the cats are up on their high perches, but they are all in the same room, so that is a good beginning. I now let Bella loose and we are all finding our way, I do not think she means harm, only wants to play. I have been taking Bella on my jobs as I still don't trust her alone with the cats, but this weekend I will try an hour here and there and see how it goes, I think in a few weeks all will be calm.

Bella is a dream dog, she is so smart (her Shepard part) she has already learned so much, I am teaching her to heel this week. She rarely barks and likes to play, but is really laid back (her lab part). She is a keeper for sure. HAW XOXO

I have a lab and before that a shephard and they are both sweet breeds (the shepherd can be a little more feisty but not mine and she was a purebred). The pic is priceless, btw. He looks like the dog that age the cat that ate the canary, as we used to say here at home when our dogs tried getting too close to our cats. :)

It is important to give cats places to perch high, as you can see, and to not leave them together alone until they can all eat next to each other in harmony. Sounds like you are going about this in a good way, but even wanting to play can escalate for a dog and you are right in wanting to be there to monitor their interactions for quite a while. Remember, discretion is the better part of valor...

Glad it is working out but I wouldn't dare to leave them alone yet. When the time is there you will know for sure. I still sense some doubt so .....
He seems like a wonderful dog.
Enjoy your day with them :)

Once I got a new dog and she was a puppy and a total pain to my cat - I swear my cat didn't touch ground for a year. He went from counter to top of fridge etc. that dog didn't last....
lovely photo tho' - tells quite a story

I'm sure they will be the best of friends soon. Glad you are so happy with Bella.

I'm smiling, because I'm surprised that Bella doesn't just drag the chair around to get where she wants to go. Good girl!
I once had a Shepherd who shoved a chair to where she could jump up and get a cake from the counter.
They are very smart.

Looks like she's accepting the restraint reasonably well.

Lovely she is accepting your leadership really well. I grew up with Shepherds and we had a labrador. Fluff is part labrador so she is pretty smart as well as gentle. Bella is a lucky dog.

i've been gone on a trip. so glad to come back and see that beautiful little bella is still home with you!
she'll be fine. they'll all find their way.
i'm with babs ~ surprised that bella doesn't know her own strength... she could drag that chair wherever she wanted to! just shows how good she is. lots of love and cuddles by her new mom will make her feel secure and at home...and no need to compete with the kitties! you have a good heart.
love,
tammy j
and ps... your house looks so cosy!

It's great to see things are working out for all the creatures under your roof. Why can't we ALL just give peace a chance?
