Missing You

I have not been blogging much, or visiting blogs much. I have absolutely no art to show, though I am working, I am working on two paintings I am doing for the juried Fall Arts show here in Taos New Mexico,The Taos Selects. I am starting early and taking my time as I want to create pieces that will wow and stand out from the crowd. I want to do my very best work and that takes me a lot of time as my process is very labor intensive, I don't do a piece in an hour or a day or even a week, mostly they take a few weeks and some a month. I am always working on more than one piece because it is not so slow that way, so when I am finished I usually have a few done at a time, but it is not a race after all :-). It will be a while before I have anything to show you, not sure how much I will be blogging. I have noticed when I am on Facebook, which is about once a week at most, that most of you who are facebook friends seem to always be there posting, and hardly every blogging anymore. I hate facebook, and only began doing it because of family and it is a way to stay connected, but I prefer phone calls and emails and cards and blogging as they are so much more personnel. I find facebook annoying and surfacy. I wonder why it is taking over? Is it the time factor?
Why is everyone running around like chickens? I have learned in my life and I am still learning that the biggest time stealer is the fact that I can't say no to certain people, I gave up all my time to make their dreams come true and in the meantime my dreams and painting got put on hold. It does not matter that I sometimes got paid for the service. Now I say no, to clients, to friends, to family because as I get older I need time. Time to sit and look at my birds, to play with my dog, to walk, to stare at nothing and most of all to paint. I don't do facebook often because while some may see it as a time saver, it steals time and very quickly the hours pass.
I don't blog as often or visit as often because I have to make choices and sometimes watching my birds is just more important. Having said all that I mostly want to say that I miss you. Even if I hardly visit I am thinking of you and I remember the early days of blogging when it felt so wonderful. Everyone is leaving now and it makes me sad, but I do understand. I always love to hear your thoughts. Happy Memorial weekend, I will be spending it thinking of all those I have lost in the last few years, and mostly my mom. XOXO

oh annie! i am still here, blogging away, and feel the same about all the other social media, i don't have fb or any other of the places to go. i do imagine it's easier and i understand that.
blogging is journal keeping and you are right, it does take more time, but (my belief) is that the joy is so great, and yes, i am a slow person, so it's a good fit. well, i hope you do what makes you happiest, that is always the best.
have a lovely memorial weekend,
love, lori

Lori, You are one of the few and I am so glad for it! I would miss you so if I could not visit you on you wonderful blog. I agree blogging does take more time, but I much prefer it to fb and will continue to blog, perhaps not as often, but I will still be here. xoxo

I'm with you too. I have a FB account but don't use it very often, I don't want to share with 500 people!! what goes around comes around, and I think they'll be a different resurgence in blogging. I think that people have become just too busy to write, think etc. I know it's been hard for me too.

Keep the faith! Keep up the artwork

Well, I'm with you on that one. I'm blogging, too, but have also gotten into the habit of going to FB because of family frequenting the place. It eats up lots of time.
Much luck to you on the juried show. I imagine your paintings are growing thick with texture and design. Can't wait to see.

I've always kept a journal - well since high school and blogging has replaced that for me. I do find lots of folks visit my blog, but not as many comment. People seem to want quick ways of connecting - tweeter & fb.
I enjoy tumblr & pinterest and my blog - but I don't blog as much as I used to either.

I bet your paintings are getting richer and richer each day - you are so smart to start early for your show -- can't wait to see what you've done!

Mim, You keep the faith too!xoxo

Barbara, Thank you for the luck, always nice to see you here. xoxo

Judy, you are right, the extra time to comment is too much for many people, I visit too many artist's blogs to comment on them all, but I have a few like yours that I make the extra effort. xoxo

annie, i will never let facebook replace blogging! i follow my family on it but i would never even try to share what i share in our wonderful world of the blogs.

i know something has changed. for me it's been such a stressful few months that blogging has taken a back seat. i just can't seem to keep writing about poor me. but please know i'm around and will stay around.

i'm glad you are taking your time with your art. and i have a feeling you are going to shine in this show!!!

love

I find that I still blog a couple times a week but only check in with other blogs about once a week. Lately I've been absorbed by a couple of big life changes coming up and I started writing about one on a private blog hoping to keep my head straight about things. Seems like even at the tender age of 65 big life changes can happen that are out of the ordinary.

Kj, So glad to hear you won't give up on blogging, I won't either, but we do have to take care of ourselves and take time out. xoxo

Annie, Life is ever changing and like I told kj, we have to take time for ourselves it is so important. xoxo

annie, i made a rule for myself at the beginning: i will only blog with joy, never from obligation. i feel that way about gardening too. so when i blog and visit blogs, i'm 100% there.

i know you are too

love
kj

Kj, Amen, I do feel exactly that way too, about everything :-). xoxo

I used to blog a lot for sure and now hardly ever. though dont know why. FB is sort of silly but sometimes gives me a titch of feeling seen.

good luck with your paintings. and yes, always take the time to watch the birds.

Annie, I can relate. I recently closed my FB account. There just isn't enough time in this life to do it all: live life and blog a bit about living life AND FB. So FB was the first to go for me. Whew! It's a relief.

Annie said...

Suki, I know I miss your posts!xoxo

Kelly, You are right there is only time for so much and I hate to feel rushed through my life. xoxo

I'd still rather blog than do facebook--I joined a few months ago (mostly to see family pictures) and I don't love it. Might be the introvert in me.

Do what feeds your creativity and your soul, I say! :)

Kate P, Amen. xoxo

Blogging is so much more satisfying than FB-ing isn't it? K'm not a fan of FB even though I have an account. It's like tweeting (which I still haven't felt the least inclined to investigate). There are onlu so many hours in the day and I would rather do ... well pretty much anything!

When I get better at the bassoon I am going to record me playing something ... even if it's only twinkle twinkle little star. And then I shall send it to you Annie. I want you to know that I think about you often too ... regardless of whether I am present blogging or not.

Lots of love to you dear heart. xx Jos

Oops! Sorry for all the typos Annie, still adjusting to my new glasses. xx

Jos, P.S. I can't wait to hear you play the Bassoon :-). xoxo

Hi Annie x
Long time no see... I am just returning to blogging. Hope to visit with you again before too long.
Maintaining a blog does take a lot of time, but this time around I'm hoping to keep it simple. What mostly kept me away for so long was painting fulltime for an exhibition.

I miss you, too, Sweetie! I've stopped blogging as much because hardly anyone visits or comments on my most of my posts anymore. Facebook makes me cranky and makes me feel invisible, too, but I go there mostly to sign petitions for causes I believe in. None of this online stuff is as enjoyable for me as it used to be. People are so fickle. . .

But art still makes me happy! Like you, I tend to create art slowly, and that's OK with me. Have fun painting, and good luck with the juried art shows!
xoxoxo

Robyn, So happy to see you! Great that you are blogging again! Also exciting news about the exhibition!
xoxo

Angela, I know what you mean. I feel pretty invisible too and unappreciated as an artist. There are still a few people like you that I love to visit, though i do miss a post now and then, I am never on FB unless I am promoting my art or causes I believe in.
Love and hugs. xoxo

thank you for visiting MY blog today and writing. yes..even google reader is shutting down which is how i used to keep track of blogs. i agree..its all changing and we have to keep up with it. do you have a facebook fan page? i would recommend THAT over a profile page. the fan page is something anyone can view and it helps get your work seen PLUS if i am 'liking' your fan page and i click my 'home' i get to see all my fan page peeps updates and it feels like the old days in a way with blogging! let me know if you have a fan page (by visiting mine i will see you if you like my paulaart page) good luck with your new body of work for the fall!

Hi Annie, I am still blogging but it has taken some time to get the old photos up on the new blog. A lot are there now. I know what you mean about blogging. It felt like a friendly craft circle in the early days then Google kept changing things and trying to make it more commercial. I didn't like being able to see that 350 people had read a post but only 10 had left a comment. It made it feel very different- less friendly. I am happy now I host my own blog, so there isn't a limit on how big it gets. I don't do FB at all. Daughter does, as she has friends in different locations. I looked at it via her and didn't like the shallow sharing of the mundane on it. I just don't have time for that.

Good luck with your new art pieces. I hope they turn out well.

Paula,
Thank you for coming here and leaving a comment. I believe I do have a fan page, I will like yours and then it should come up. I really only use fb for family and to promote my work. Good luck to you too! xoxo

Melanie,
I agree with you. I am hard at work on my paintings, many more hours to go... xoxo

Annie your website is fabulous and your artwork is looking wonderful... Hope you are still creating and loving it x

Robyn, Thank you so much for that. I am in full tilt creation mode and while sometimes I hit a glitch, I am always loving creating it. I hope the same is for you. xoxo
