"Alice" Review

Let me tell you that I won't spoil the movie by telling you everything that happens, I hate that!

First the good: In the first hour or so, I was in heaven. It is so yummy you could eat it. I love the sets, the clothes, the castles. I loved the Caterpillar (Alan Rickman, who I LOVE) and the Cheshire-cat (Stephan Fry) the very best, the March hare and dormouse are pretty cute too. The acting is great by all except a few. I thought Anne Hathaway and Crispin Glover were weak in their parts. Johnny was wonderful as always and Mia Wasikowska was a fine Alice. Helen Bonham Carter is terrific.
Now the bad: I have no real complaints except for one big one, they changed the story. I love the original story, so that was a big disappointment, but it may not be for you. I figure they did that to please the masses, whatever the reason I feel it was a huge mistake.
Being the sport I am I decided to love the movie anyway. I loved that it was in 3D and it was a very fun ride with lots of eye candy.
I give it a B-.

Hate the book, loved the movie.Very scary story for adoptees but the movie shows that although we can't stop the dreams we can triumph over our fears in the end.

Von, you hated the book? Such strong words. The book is one of my favorites, but I see how it could be scary. I did indeed like the message of the movie. xoxo

I read this so I know to expect the story to be almost a "what happens next" rather than a film of either of the books.

I'm a fan of Rickman and Fry too. HBC does seem to go for quirky roles rather than the period drama she did initially.

Melanie-Thnaks for the link..
Nolly-Go see the movie :-).
EOM-Adults or children could enjoy this, but not young kids, over age 9 would be good, your son would enjoy it I think...

I love that you said you "decided" to love the movie anyway. Sometimes we just need to give ourselves permission to enjoy what we enjoy! Does that make sense?

Hey Annie--

Shari and I got tickets for opening night at a 3D IMAX theater, and were very disappointed, especially after being blown away by Avatar. I just wasn't emotionally moved or touched in any way at all....but more important, I am always moved and touched by your comments on my page, I registered your warning, and in case you didn't know, I am 57...love, E.

E-I liked Alice better than Avatar, on an artistic level I found it more appealing, though the forest in Avatar was beautiful, and I liked that Alice found "herself", but we are all different and like different things :-). So, you are older than me! So what's with this aversion to 60 year old women? Silly.:-) xoxox

Annie,

Would it be possible to send a picture of birds on trees to me @bluecottage2000@yahoo.com...This strikes me as the perfect cover for a book I'm planning, 'on twigs, like birds', out in 2010. Many thanks.....old pajamas
