Spike-Update

Spike is home for an overnight, I am to take him back in the morning and he will stay for the day while I am at work. He could go right back into the state he was in, so if he gets through the next 48 hours, that is the test. We are still waiting on the surgery. I will be giving him fluids every month, with a needle, but they said it is not bad and that they will teach me. Anyway this is a huge couple days for Spike, if he goes back into kidney failure I will have to put him to sleep. Keep praying. At the very least I have one more night with him. He is very funny right now, full of it and very mad :-). This is a very stressful time, but I will honor whatever Spike Chooses. I am so grateful to have this time with him, however small. Thank you all for your support and love.
Willowtree would you email me any info you have about the food issues, if it is not too much trouble? It just so happens I feed my cats dry cat food.
Blessings, XOXO

I am sure I will talk with you over the weekend, but in case I miss you, ask your vet, what were his BUN, Creatinine, Calcium, Phosphorus values, as well as his HCT. Knowing that will help me advise you.

Also, did you really mean giving fluids every month, as in once a month?? Typical is twice a week and my CRF cat got them every day. He was a success story, as I had him for 5 years after his diagnosis, but I will tell you more about him soon...

This is a great video about Kidney disease in cats

Hang in there Spike! I'm praying for you.

Cats and cat people are special.
:0)
We feed our Skitzi-cat dry food, too. I had no idea it could lead to kindney failure. . .

Hugs and love,
Angela

Hugs Annie. I think Spike will let you know if/when the time happens.

I hope he will be comfortable in the meantime. My thoughts are still with you both.

My memory is from many years ago, but I seem to remember it was the ash in dry cat food that caused crystals and that male cats usually had the problems. It also seemed to me that there were dry cat foods that were ok, but I remember reading about foods I could cook. Teri has some wonderful information. Teri, I LOVE your success story! There is so much hope and love in your comments. Blessings to Annie and Spike.

Annie, I prayed to Saint Seraphim, an animal lover, for intersession with poor Spike & to help you come up with the money to heal your kitty.

You are all wonderful and I thank you. It is 9:30 and I have not had dinner yet, but Spike is home, I gave him his fluids and Teri, you are right twice a week and little more this week. I will go to all your sites when I get a minute. Which I am wondering if I will ever have any time again! Keep the love and prayers coming. XOXO

My heart is with you guys...I've been hoping and praying for you all along. I'd been wondering what was troubling Spike. I have faith in the both of you. : ) And if you can manage it, switch his food to something organic with less ash. I'm sure a million people told you that already though. No matter what happens, I'm here for you.
